Reading Lists

I started these reading lists 8 years ago because I wanted to see how many books I read in a year, people kept asking me to recommend books, and I don't always remember what books I've read. So the reading list was born.

It's moved a number of times, from a Wordpress list to a tumblr blog to an html/css page and now back to a simple blog. Formats changed throughout the year, and I'm too lazy to standardize it, so each year's list is slightly different.

I liked some books more than others, but all of them are worth reading. Worst book I ever read? The Unbearable Lightness of Being by Milan Kundera. I refer to it as the Unbearable Absence of Plot... and don't get me started on the movie. (... and don't get me started on The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt - that may be the worst book I've read in the 21st century!)

Here are my favorite books from each year:

1a. Unsheltered by Barbara Kingsolver - 2019 (print)
1b. The Dutch House by Ann Patchett - 2019 (audio)
2. The Ryanverse by Tom Clancy (I spent 5 months in 2018 reading the canon and I'm only up to Debt of Honor! Most likely my fascination with classic Clancy is a need for the Ryan/Clark duo to show up and save us in 2019.)
3. So Big by Edna Ferber - 2017
4. Underground Airlines by Ben Winters - 2016
5. Americanah by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie - 2015
6. Wintergirls by Laurie Halse Anderson - 2014
7. Sex & Violence by Cassie Mesrobian - 2013
8. 1Q84 by Haruki Murakami and 11/22/63 by Stephen King (the former, because it's one of the best books ever, the latter, because it helped me through the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy) - 2012
9. Game of Thrones because duh! - 2011

I'm sure you'll find something of interest on my list. Feel free to make suggestions via social media (preferably Instagram)!

Sincerely, Laura (the Book Whisperer)
